The Iconic Vintage Barbie Ponytail Doll From 1959 to 1964

The Vintage Barbie Ponytail Dolls featured Barbie's first looks but had a few alterations over the years. From 1959 to 1966, the first Barbie had seven different versions. All of which are categorized by their numbers (#1 to #7).

As a general rule, the older the Barbie, the more valuable it becomes. In this case, Vintage Barbie Ponytail Doll #1 is the most precious of all.

The Fun And Bouncy Vintage Barbie Bubblecut Dolls From 1961 to 1967

Despite the ongoing production of the Vintage Barbie Ponytail Doll, the company decided to release another look in the year 1961. They took inspiration from the fashion icon and first lady at the time, Jackie Kennedy. Barbie donned a short hairstyle called a “bubble cut.”

Collectors never distinguished the different faces etched in Bubblecut Barbies as opposed to the Ponytail ones. But the former underwent different versions too. The first Bubblecut release had a smaller and tighter hairstyle, but as the years went by, it got fuller.

The Famed Barbie Swirl Ponytail From 1964

Opening the glamorous era of Barbie was the Swirl Ponytail version that was introduced in the year 1964. The doll's glamorous aesthetic thrived and lasted until 1967 when Barbie went through her “Mod” phase.

Dolls from Barbie’s glam years, which started in 1964 and ended in 1966, remain the most sought-after by collectors. This demand also makes them the most valuable.

The All-American Girl Barbie From 1965 To 1966

Embodying the company's “elegance and glamour” era, The American Girl Barbie got its name mainly because of its hairstyle. Along with 1,600 series outfits, The American Girl Barbie remains the most glam (and one of the most valuable) collector’s items.

The Exciting Color Magic Barbie From 1966

Probably the rarest vintage doll is the Color Magic Barbie. When it was first released in 1966, it was sold in stores with either Midnight Black hair or Golden Blonde. It comes with an enclosed solution that would change its hair to either Scarlet Flame or Ruby Red. Due to its rarity, this is the most expensive out of all the vintage dolls on this list. If a vintage Color Magic Barbie has “high-color” and striking makeup, it will be even more valuable than the rest.
